Fate is the Hunter Mystery/Drama 1964
Fate is the Hunter
An aviation drama, concerning the fate of Consolidated Airlines flight 22, and the courage of aviators who take to the sky and face the unknown. Sam McBane(Glenn Ford) is an airline executive, leading an investigation, trying to clear the good name of a pilot Jack Savage(Rod Taylor), his best friend from WWII. Through a series of flashbacks, his seemingly careless friend's true character is revealed. Sally(Nancy Kwan) is the pilot's girlfriend, whose brave smile hides a great sense of loss. Martha(Suzanne Pleshette) is the stewardess who must overcome her fear to solve the mystery. The film is a gripping "howdunnit" that leaves you guessing until the very end. The friendship between Glenn Ford's and Rod Taylor's characters seems very genuine. Nancy Kwan delivers a strong, restrained dramatic performance, in an unusual role as a Chinese-American scientist that was years ahead of its time.

The theme to Fate is the Hunter was written by legendary film composer Jerry Goldsmith. Among his over two hundred credits include the memorable scores to films such as The Sand Pebbles, Planet of the Apes, Patton, Chinatown, The Omen, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Poltergeist, Hoosiers, LA Confidential, Air Force One, and Mulan. The Fate theme is first introduced by a solo trumpet at the climax of the opening scene of the film, and then is repeated in variation throughout the picture. Look for Jerry Goldsmith's cameo playing the piano in the scene where Glenn Ford questions the bartender.
